Cocteau was a French author and filmmaker who worked in nearly every artistic medium. His versatile(多才の), unconventional(前例に捕らわれない)approach and enormous output brought him international acclaim(喝采), and he is best known for the novel Les Enfants Terrible (1929), the play The Infernal Machine, and the film Beauty and the Beast. Despite his achievements in virtually all literary and artistic fields, Cocteau insisted that he was primarily a poet.
