It is never too late to stop smoking. A recent study found that heart attack survivors who quit smoking live longer than those who maintain the habit. The data even showed that simply cutting back on the amount of cigarettes heart attack survivors smoke provides them with some survival advantage. During the 13-year study period, first-time heart attack sufferers who quit smoking were 37 percent less likely to die than those that continued. Interestingly, heart attack survivors who had never smoked were found to be only slightly better off than those who quit, as they were 43 percent less likely than persistent smokers to die during the study period.
