ラオスが建国された14世紀の時の国名はランサーン。
　ラオス語で百万頭の象の意味です。

　その名の通り、ラオスには象が無尽蔵にいたそうです。
　ビエンチャンの凱旋門前の道の名は、ランサン通り。

　1975年の革命前、ラオスで最高のホテルの名は、ランサンホテル。
　少々古い資料ですが、2006年、560頭の象がラオスにいました。

　560頭のうち、20歳以下のメス象は46頭だったそうです。
　不確かな情報ですが、毎年たくさんの象が死んでいく中で、生まれる象の数はわずかに２～3頭と言われています。

　セリアック病（小児脂肪便症）の原因究明

　Celiac disease, a disease of the digestive system that damages the small intestine（腸）and interferes with the absorption（養分の吸収）of nutrients, is caused by an abnormal reaction to gluten（グルテン）, a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and possibly oats.
　Now, researchers believe they have identified the three peptides（ペプチド）in gluten that are responsible for triggering the harmful immune response.
　Currently, the only treatment for celiac disease is the elimination of gluten from one's diet, but experts are hopeful that these findings could lead to the development of drug treatments or even a vaccine.
