Kuwata hurt in Pirates' 2-2 tie with Toronto

-- Pitcher Masumi Kuwata, the Pirates' first Japanese player, left the team's 2-2 tie with the Toronto Blue Jays today at McKechnie Field because of a sprained right ankle.

After Toronto's John McDonald singled in the eighth inning, Kuwata ran from the mound to back up a throw from center fielder Luis Matos to third baseman Jose Castillo, then stepped on the foot of home plate umpire Wally Bell -- covering third on the play -- and collapsed in the grass near the base line.
