Japanese government proposes to solve territorial issues abidinging international law. It is very sensitive and challenging issue to decide which country an uninhabbited island located between two countries belongs to. Each country tries to justify its claim by its own interpretation of history. But there is no use dating back history too far, because the concept of national border is not so old.
China and Korea refuse to submit the territorial problems to international court or follow international law. They criticize Japan saying it distorts the history. They are likely to say that Japan should give up on its territorial claim as a compasation of the past damage they suffered. Russia also blame Japan for the similar reason. It says its invasion of Japanese northern islands was before the end of war and Japan distorts the history by claiming that it is after the end of the war which international society considers Aug.15, 1945.
They should remember that Japan lost the war and handled the compansation and other issues principally following what was suggested by the winners of the war. There was no way that Japan distorted the history. Aside from this fact it is right way to follow the international law when it comes to international dispute.
