沖縄の米軍基地にリコプターと飛行機の両方の機能を持つオスプレイが配備された。その安全性に問題があるとして反対運動が強くなっている。飛行機は超スピードで飛んでいるので落ちないんだと理解しているので、ヘリとしての機能に切り替える時に危険が伴うだろうなと思ってきた。この問題を克服したのはさすがはアメリカの航空技術は素晴らしいと感心する。
飛行機はもともと軍事目的のために発達したと聞いている。ＩＴ技術や原子力利用も軍事技術から発展したのだと聞いた。新しい技術は最初は危険を伴うものが多いが、軍事目的ならば、多少の危険も織り込み済みともいえる。オスプレイも軍関係で十分に利用して、危険因子を検討、改良した後に、民事で使用してほしい。その意味では沖縄でのオスプレイ利用も海上だけに限定して被害があっても軍関係のみで、民間には及ばないようにできないだろうか。
Ospreys equipped with two functions of airplane and helicopter were deployed in U.S. military base in Okinawa. People of Okinawa are strongly protesting against the deployment becasuse of their safety problems. As I undrstand that airplane can fly only when it keeps high speed, I wonder how safely Osprey can sift two functions. It is really amazing that U.S. military engineers could overcome this barrier.
I heard that aircraft techology was first developed for military purpose, and so were IT and nuclear energy technologies. Many new technologies can not evade incidents in the begining. But for military use minimum incidents are counted in. I hope that Osprey will be used for civil purpose only after its safety is improved during military use. In Okinawa its flight area should be limited to the sea far from inhabited land to minimize civilian casualties.
