「Every cigarette packet has a silver lining.」
友達がくれたメールの件名なんだけど
意味がわからない。
確かにタバコの箱は銀色の裏貼りが施されているけれど、
それがどうしたっていうの？？
…と質問してみたら、
It comes from an old saying "Every could has a silver lining."
だそうで、意味は
Even bad things like what a dark cloud will bring has something good to it.
cloudをcigarette packetに換えるとbanalだからジョークになるんだって。
ふーん。
座布団１枚？
今日は、サービスアパートメントから別のお宅へ移動。
10ヶ月の赤ちゃんがいるのに夜11時に掃除機をかけちゃうような、フシギな家。
早いとこ次の家を見つけて引っ越そう……

Every could has a silver lining.
= Every sad or difficult situation has a positive or hopeful side.
lining = a layer of material used to cover the inside surface or sth.
banal = very ordinary and containing nothing that is interesting or important.
(e.g. It's a buzz for me living on the border. / She gets a buzz out of her work.)
fluster = a state of being nervous and confused
(e.g. I hope you are not in a fluster.)
たで食う虫も好きずき = There is no accounting for taste.
実物 = in person = in the flesh
