According to data collected in surveys for the Children's Society, more than 25% of 14 to 16 year olds agree with the statement: "I often feel depressed." Approximately 70% said that they feel the need to "look good," and many of the teens surveyed said they feel pressured by school concerns, classmates, and family. These results highlight the importance of addressing adolescents’ mental health needs and providing them with access to treatment. Some mental health professionals are quick to highlight that while these responses indicate that teens often feel sad, this does not mean that all who responded in the affirmative suffer from clinical depression.
