According to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study, more people are hurt snowboarding than participating in any other outdoor sport. Of the approximately 213,000 emergency room (ER) visits related to injuries sustained while participating in outdoor activities each year, about one quarter can be attributed to the winter sport. While snowboarders often suffer sprains(捻挫), broken bones, and concussions(脳震とう), taking the proper precautions and wearing protective gear like helmets and wrist guards can reduce the risk of serious injury. Sledding(小型そり乗り)and hiking follow snowboarding in frequency of injury, accounting for 11 and 6 percent of outdoor sport-related ER visits respectively.
