　A powerful earthquake in central Italy caused entire blocks of buildings to collapse early Monday morning as residents slept, killing and trapping many under the rubble.
　Rescue efforts in the mountain city of L'Aquila as well as neighboring towns are ongoing following the powerful quake, the country's deadliest in nearly three decades, with residents and rescuers using their bare hands to clear the debris.
　More than 100 people were killed and 1,500 injured, and the death toll is likely to rise as more victims are extracted from the rubble（瓦礫）.
