A massive, 8.3-magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami that killed at least 14 people in American Samoa and an unspecified number of people in neighboring Samoa. The quake struck between Samoa and American Samoa around dawn Tuesday, sending residents scurrying for higher ground as a tsunami destroyed at least one village. According to reports from area residents, a number of villages were inundated and cars were swept away by the powerful waters. At least 50 people were injured as well, and this number is expected to rise as more victims are brought to hospitals from coastal areas.
