火事だ！（後編）

「庭のホースをもってらっしゃい！届くから“　

私はボールの水を暖炉の中にぶちまけながら

怒鳴った。幸い三杯の水で鎮火したが、

グレッグはその後始末を一人でやらなければ

ならなかった・・・・私に叱られながら！

グレッグは暖炉でジャンク・メールを燃やす

のを楽しむのだが、時々非常に危険な大きい

ダンボールまで燃やす。暖炉の内側に目一杯

のサイズのを入れたので、

「それは、危険すぎる。小さく切ったらいい。

時々、爆発するから」と言ったが、

「ミセス・しったかぶり！絶対にそんな事

起こるもんか！」と口答えをした。

それが火事の原因だったのだ。大きすぎる

ダンボールを暖炉に無理に押し込んだ時に

換気扇の蓋を閉めてしまったのだ。乾燥地の

南カリフォルニアでは、火の廻りが恐ろしい

くらい速い。私は激怒した。今回は自分の絵が

燃えそうになったから二度とバカな事をしない

だろう。

“Go get the garden hose, that’ll reach!” I yelled as I poured a bowlful of water into the fireplace.
Thank God! The fire went out after three bowls of water. But Gregg had to clean up the mess all by himself.....after being scolded by me!

Gregg enjoys burning junk mails in fireplace. Sometimes, he burns big cardboard box that is extremely dangerous. He placed a huge cardboard-box that was the size of the interior of the fireplace.
“That’s too dangerous. Cut it up into smaller pieces. It sometimes explodes and cause a fire,” I said.
“You, Mrs. Know-it-all it’ll never happen!” he talked back at me.
That was the cause of the fire. The box was too big and closed the vent when he forced it into the fireplace. Fire grows extremely fast in dry area like Southern California. I was soooooo angry. I think he learned the lesson.

(This is the best he could clean. It was jet black. It burnt within 30seconds after lighting. The house still stinks. これ以上きれいになりません。真っ黒だったのです。火をつけて３０秒以内にこれだけもえたのです。家中まだ臭ってます。）
