What Is the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve?

The U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is a government-managed stockpile of Bitcoin held for long-term strategic purposes. Established through a March 2025 executive order, the reserve places eligible government-owned Bitcoin under Treasury management instead of allowing the assets to be liquidated.
米国戦略的ビットコイン備蓄とは、長期的な戦略的目的のために保有される、政府が管理するビットコインの蓄積である。2025年3月の大統領令を通じて設立されたこの備蓄は、資産の清算を許す代わりに、対象となる政府所有のビットコインを財務省の管理下に置くものである。

Unlike sovereign wealth funds or investment portfolios, the reserve is not funded through taxpayer money or routine market purchases. Instead, it consists primarily of Bitcoin that was seized as government property following criminal convictions and civil asset forfeiture proceedings.

The policy closely resembles the philosophy behind the nation’s gold reserves. Rather than generating short-term revenue through asset sales, the government intends to preserve Bitcoin as a strategic asset that could appreciate over time.
