１．昨日は誰とそこへ行ったのかね？彼女と行かなかった理由をいいたまえ。
(A) Who did you go there with? Tell me the reason why you didn't go with her.
(B) Whom did you go there with? Let me know why you didn't go with her.
２．来なさいといったら来なさい。いうことを聞かないと、どこへも連れていかないからね。
(A) Do come. If you don't obey me, I'll not take you anywhere.
(B) Do come, boy! I will take you nowhere unless you're obedient.
ポイント
強調を表す助動詞の do. 相手が否定ないし消極的な態度をとっているときなどに、自分の考えを強く主張する場合に用いられる。
Yet it (=the earth) does move. 「それでもやはりそれ（＝地球）は動く」《Yet it moves の強調》
Do come in. 「さあ入ってよ」《Please come in の強調。遠慮したりしてなかなか入ろうとしない相手に向かって》
「（～の）言うことを聞く」 obey～
cheerfully [happily] obey an order 「喜んで[進んで]命令に従う」
They meekly obeyed. 「彼らは大人しく従った」
３．（１．３の続き）しかし、もし、その次の１ヶ月くらいの間ずっと、彼女が風船、イースターの卵や丸い小石などを見て、「ボール」と口にするのを聞いたら、疑いが生じてくるに違いない。そして最初の結論を、「ボール」という単語が彼女の語彙に入り、その意味についての彼女の知識が広がり始めたという、もっと慎重な結論に置き換えたほうが、今となっては賢明だと思えてくるであろう。
But if, during the next month or so, she is heard to say "ball" on seeing a balloon, an Easter egg, a small round stone, and so on, doubts must begin to arise ; and it may then seem wiser to replace the first conclusion by the more cautious one that the word "ball" has now entered her vocabulary and that her knowledge of its meaning has begun to grow.

接続詞 that 同格用法（～という）：idea, thought, fact, hope, opinion のような「考え」、「意見」を示す名詞の後ろによく用いられる。

enter one's vocabulary 「自分の語彙の中に入ってくる」
expand / extend / increase one's vocabulary 「語彙を増やす」
develop / enrich one's vocabulary 「（駆使できる）語彙を豊富にする」
enter についてもう少し：
enter～は「～に入る」というように、他動詞で用いるのが普通。
enter on～, enter into～ となると、「入る」といっても比喩的な意味になる。
The couple entered on married life. 「2人は結婚生活に入った[＝を始めた]」
Let's enter into conversation. 「さあ、会話に入ろう[＝を始めよう]」
She didn't enter into my mood. 「彼女は私の気分に乗ってこなかった」
There is no need to enter into particulars. 「詳細に述べる必要はない」
Connections don't enter into this. 「これに縁故[コネ]は関係ない」
The contract does not enter into force until January of next year. 「契約は来年の1月にならないと効力を生じない」
knowledge が伴うその他の動詞（一部）：
Knowledge advances slowly. 「知識の進展は緩慢なものだ」
My knowledge ends there. 「私はそれ以上のことは知らない、私が知っているのはそこまでです」
That's as far as my knowledge goes. 「以上が私の知りうる限度です《それ以上は知らない》」
His knowledge of Tagalog does not extend much beyond the basics. 「彼のタガログ語の知識は基本的なことをあまり出ていない」
