水曜日から開催の国連 WSIS（the World Summit on the Information Society 於：Tunis）へ、the Media Lab at MIT に於いて、開発中の100ドルラップトップを開発途上国の首脳達に宣伝するためにNick Negroponte氏も出かける由。

NEW YORK (FORTUNE) - Nick Negroponte would like to sell you a $100 laptop, especially if you're head of state in a large developing country.

That's why he is at the World Summit on the Information Society, the giant UN-sponsored gathering that starts Wednesday in Tunis. Negroponte plans to show for the first time a working prototype of his new device, intended for hundreds of millions of mostly-poor students worldwide. The techies and government ministers in Tunis are his ideal target market.

これは、 One laptop per child を標榜する途上国の子供向けのラップトップ開発計画とのことです。趣旨に賛同する各方面からの寄付も集まっているとのこと。子供達が自立的に自己学習できるラップトップとして、どのようなものができあがるでしょうか。

上記は、WSIS で初お目見えのプロトタイプの設計イメージ、なんだか夢のあるラップトップのようです。

アナン国連事務総長もお試し
11月17日、WSIS 会場のデモンストレーションに於いて、アナン事務総長、このlaptop機のハンドル（手動発電機能操作用）を回したそうです。すると、単なる展示モデル、ハンドルがとれたそうです。事務総長は当惑された､と報道されています。後でNegroponte氏がデモ試運転をしたときは、表示画面がロックしてしまったそうです。

100ドルというのは、計画では、製造原価を若干下回る値付けで、購入する国は、最低注文単位が100万台、とされています。一般需要家向けプライスは、200ドル程度にするとか。現在のところ、ブラジルとタイが相当強い関心を示している由。

ラップトップ機のカラー、ミドリは、the One Laptop Per Child non-profit group の相当強いこだわりのようです。これからの活躍を期待したいです。
