(Synopsis)
Lyra is an orphan fostered in Jordan Collage in Oxford.
She is a tomboy and loves to play around with kitchen boys and servant boys.
When she sneaked into a retiring room, she happened to see the Master of Jordan collage try to poison her uncle, Lord Asriel.
She let him know about the poison and he caught his life.
He came to Jordan College to give a presentation about "dust", which considered to be a source of original sin. He explored to the North and found the fact.
In Lyra's world, all people are connected to daemon, an animal form which changes the form according to owner's mood, but settled its form when the owner became an adult. The final form shows the nature of owner; such as dogs tend to come with servants, birds to scholars. In Lord Asriel's inspection, this daemon and "dust" have deep correspondence.
One day, a kitchen boy, one of Lyra's friends, disappeared. He seems to be captured by "Goblins" and took to far north.
Lyra determined to go and help her friend.
What is "dust"? Could Lyra find her friend?
The story starts to turn to great saga.
In fact, I had read this book, in the process of extensive reading, just after reading 1 million words of English books.
At that time, this book, YL 8, was too difficult for me, and I could only catch the story at the best.
This time, when I first started listening, I thought the conversation is too fast and difficult to catch, because of its British English. But as I go further, I started to catch the British accent and find myself listening to it relaxed.
As the reading is with full cast and it is as if listening to a radio drama, it is fun to hear it. Story is superb.
