From Okayama, I transferred to "Yakumo" limited express no. 11. It was the first time I rode on 381 Series.
381 Series employs pendulum-type passive tilting, which tilts itself using centrifugal force. In construction, the one using the location information of ATC or ATS-P and one of a pair of air springs like N700 Series Shinkansen is called "active tilting".
Let's start to write about my travel with "Yakumo". My seating was among regular ones, but the carriage was converted from Green Car.
From Okayama to Kurashiki, the train ran on Sanyo Main Line. Because all trains on Hakubi Line go through Sanyo Main Line to Okayama, this section is regarded as a sharing section between Sanyo Main Line and Hakubi Line. Leaving Kurashiki, the train headed north for Hakubi Line. The train ran along Takahashi, Nishikawa, and Hino rivers from Soja Station. While travelling, I saw rural scenery with rice fields, but the railway had many curves, and I naturally understood why 381 Series had been built for Hakubi Line.
Hakubi Line had partly single-track sections between Bicchu-takahashi and Hoki-daisen. The train briefly stopped at Bicchu-kawamo Station and Ashidachi Station to pass the opposite-bound train.
From Hoki-daisen Station, the train changed the track to Sanin Main Line and turned west again. Before arriving at Yonago Station, the conductor announced the famous spot in Yonago City and Sakai-minato City.
Leaving Yonago, Lake Nakaumi was seen on my right side. From Yasugi, the track became single again. Before arriving at Matsue, the conductor's announcement about the famous spot came again.
Soon after listening to the announcement, I prepared for my getting off. Going up the elevated track, the train arrived at Matsue.
