The Chinese were willing to pay a (tribute) toll to Iran of $1 per barrel of oil (payable in Bitcoin), meaning around $2 million dollars per ship to get their oil through the Strait of Hormuz to China. Now, the US has gummed up the works by blockading the Iranian blockade, not allowing ANY cargo ships to pass through.
