Each year, the NFL hands out compensatory draft picks to teams that lost more than they gained during free agency in the previous offseason. The Denver Broncos haven't received a comp pick since 2018, and that was projected to change in 2026 -- before the J.K. Dobbins signing .
Nick Korte of OverTheCap.com tweeted last week that if the Broncos signed Dobbins for more than $3 million , it might cancel out a seventh-round comp pick for losing punter Riley Dixon this offseason. Dobbins signed a deal worth " up to " $5.25 million, but he only has $2.065 guaranteed.
It remains to be seen how much Dobbins will end up earning after incentives in 2025, and it's unclear if he will cancel out a comp pick next offseason. We probably won't know for sure until next spring.
Right now, OverTheCap.com estimates Denver could receive a pair of seventh-round picks in 2026. That would give the Broncos eight total picks next year ( they currently hold six of their original seven selections ). Even if Dobbins cancels out one of the seventh-round picks, it's possible Denver would be left with another. Check back in 2026.
