When Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen was hired, he said the team would be built around Trevor Lawrence . Fast forward a few months and he's been a man of his word.
The Jaguars used free agency to address their offensive line, bringing in Patrick Mekari and Robert Hainsey to slot in as immediate starters. They brought in Dyami Brown as another receiving option as well.
Then, they made the bold move to trade up in the draft to select Travis Hunter . Even further, they plan to allow Hunter to star on both sides of the ball.
But the biggest change going into this season will be Coen's offensive system being implemented and Lawrence becoming an expert in it .
"I really like it. It has a lot of answers. It's great," Lawrence said of the system at the end of the first organized team activity. "It puts a lot on the players. You have to know your stuff, but it gives you all the answers. You don't feel like you are stuck in a play that's not set up for success."

Being stuck in a play was a feeling Lawrence grew far too familiar with during the tenure of previous regimes. It resulted in him doing more than he likely needed to on more occasions than one.
With Coen's system, Lawrence should be able to find the right answer to questions presented by a defense. It's a work in progress, but so far so good from his perspective.
"Without going into too much detail, there are a lot of things I like about it," he continued. "It is definitely unlike any system that I have learned before, so it has been cool to learn, pick the coaches' brains and try to get it down as fast as possible."
Trevor Lawrence will play for third head coach in five years this season
Lawrence is entering his fifth season in the NFL. Coen will be his third head coach and fifth play caller since he joined the league.
There's been a lack of long-term stability with during his tenure , but Lawrence is hopeful about the new staff and outlook of the team.
"I really like the people that we have here now. I love the system," he said. "I love the staff, the players that we brought in and the guys that were already here. I feel very confident in where we are going and the trajectory we are heading. You can't change the past."
His past is one of mixed results in the four seasons in the NFL. He endured the rollercoaster of Urban Meyer during his rookie season.
Then he played under Super Bowl champion coach Doug Pederson. The Jaguars made the playoffs during Pederson's first season, getting hot late and winning five consecutive games to secure the AFC South.
They never made the postseason again, with Pederson finishing with a 22-29 record in his three seasons as head coach.
Lawrence spent the final games of 2023 battling several injuries, but he only missed one game. He spent the last month of the 2024 season on IR thanks to a concussion and nagging shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery to correct.
Now, he has to flush all of that as he prepares to play under Coen.
"I would have loved to have a little more success up to this point, to answer your question," he continued. "But the reality is this is where we are at. And I love where we are at. I have a lot of confidence in it, and we just have to keep putting the work in out here every day to prepare ourselves for the fall."
Trevor Lawrence appreciates Liam Coen's energy
It's still relatively early in the feeling out process for Lawrence and Coen but the early return has been positive.
"There is an energy on the practice field. I think that starts with Liam," Lawrence said. "He is a very energetic guy. He is passionate. He loves football and to be out here. That is one thing I noticed about him from the beginning. He has a lot of energy, and that trickles down to the staff."
Coen's energy isn't only felt on the practice field. He brings that energy in meetings and throughout the building as well.
He's mentioned several times how he wants the team to talk, feel and operate daily. It's part of the ecosystem that he's tried to build with general manager James Gladstone and executive vice president Tony Boselli.
And it's why they targeted certain players to bring to the team via free agency and the NFL Draft.
"A big variety of guys that they brought in in free agency, they all fit what we are trying to do, and the culture and energy," Lawrence said. "Even a guy like Travis, bringing him in, who is just full of energy and positive, a playmaker, all those things.
"It is just cool to see everything come together. It seems like everything is well thought out about the type of people that are here, not just the talent."
