The rivalry between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons reached a new level Tuesday night.
Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield took a shot at his former coach, Kevin Stefanski, in response to Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter saying that while with the Cleveland Browns , Stefanski — who was hired as the Atlanta Falcons’ next coach earlier this month — had a “dumpster fire at quarterback” and that Mayfield “failed” at the position.
“Failed is quite the reach pal. Still waiting on a text/call from him after I got shipped off like a piece of garbage,” Mayfield posted . “Can’t wait to see you twice a year, Coach.”
Mayfield played under Stefanski in Cleveland for two seasons before he was traded to the Carolina Panthers . The first season with Mayfield was successful as the quarterback led the team to an 11-5 record and its first playoff berth in 26 years.
The following season wasn’t as successful. Mayfield dealt with several injuries and threw 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Mayfield has found success in Tampa Bay , the team he’s been with since 2023. Now he’ll see his former coach twice a season.
It doesn’t appear time has healed how Mayfield feels about Stefanski, and it will be interesting to see how the two interact — if at all — next season.
