BOSTON — On Tuesday, Jacob Misiorowski plans to be locked in, focused on his half of what could be a pretty good pitchers’ duel against the Red Sox .
So the Brewers ’ 24-year-old ace used Monday to experience Fenway Park. Misiorowski peeked his head into the Green Monster in left field and walked up to the red seat in the right field bleachers to see just how far Ted Williams’ legendary home run really traveled.
“I just went down to The Monster. I took a tour, well I toured myself,” he said. “I walked out to the red seat. It’s sweet. It’s cool.”
Without prompting, he waded into controversial waters, comparing baseball’s two bucket-list ballparks.
“We have the privilege of going to Chicago a lot. That’s a cool stadium,” he said about Wrigley Field. “This is just a little cooler.”
On Tuesday, he’ll be part of the attraction. Misiorowski, who made the All-Star game last year as a rookie, will go head-to-head against Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet . Fans who come to Fenway on what’s expected to be a cold night will be treated to a bona fide battle of aces.
“It’ll be a great pitching matchup. Both guys have really good stuff,” said Brewers’ three-time batting champ Christian Yelich . “It’s looking like it’s going to be a cold night. Each team is going to have to find a way to capitalize on the small opportunity you get to score runs.”
Misiorowski liked being included in elite company.
“I think it’s really cool that my name is getting thrown in that ring. It’s definitely fun getting the attention,” he said. “It’s the same as me going up against (Clayton) Kershaw last year. It’s going to be cool. But in the end it’s just another game. Have to figure out how to win.”
He was glad he didn’t have to face Crochet.
“Dude has nasty (expletive),” he said. “I’m not the one who has to face it so I lucked out.”
