BOSTON — Left fielder Roman Anthony 's errant throw with the game tied in the eighth inning cost the Red Sox two runs in an 8-6 loss to the Brewers on Monday at Fenway Park.
"It was a terrible throw again," Anthony said.
The 21-year-old had the ball in his glove before baserunner Brice Turang even rounded third base.
Brewers center fielder Garrett Mitchell singled 217 feet to left with Turang on second base and Christian Yelich on first base.
Anthony's off-line throw took a hop before even reaching cut-off man Caleb Durbin . It bounced past Durbin and rolled across the third-base side on-deck circle to the backstop.
Catcher Carlos Narváez rushed to retrieve the ball. Yelich followed Turang home, scoring from first base. Turang beat Narváez's throw to reliever Garrett Whitlock covering home plate.
"I didn't have a shot with that throw," Anthony said. "Gotta be better. It's terrible."
Anthony's arm strength and accuracy have been issues early this season. He has been working with outfield instructor Kyle Hudson on his footwork to improve his throws .
"I'm doing everything I can pregame, and I think just struggling to get a grip," Anthony said. "But at the end of the day, there's no excuse. It's terrible. It's bad baseball and it's on me."

Manager Alex Cora added, "It's mechanics."
Anthony's arm strength was in the 54th percentile (84.6 mph) last season. He ranks in the sixth percentile in arm value.
"It's just a mix of everything," Anthony said. "But at the end of the day, it's a simple play. It's got to be at least competitive. And it wasn't, again. So it's terrible."
Asked if his arm is completely healthy, Anthony replied, "Yeah."
"I mean, it's like the fourth time I've done it now," he said. "It's terrible. It doesn't even make it competitive. And two runs score, it's awful to be a part of and I feel like it's on me."
Anthony had another bad throw last Tuesday in Houston . Christian Walker hit a 216-foot single directly to Anthony. Anthony's throw to home plate bounced twice. Catcher Connor Wong had to move to his left to catch it. Wong unsuccessfully dived to his right to try to tag out Correa.
