The Boston Bruins won't be losing Evan Gold to the Vancouver Canucks .
Ryan Johnson will be formally announced as Vancouver's next general manager on Thursday, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported .
Gold, the Bruins assistant GM, was the other finalist .
Johnson has been the Canucks assistant general manager since 2024. He's been with the organization since 2013.
The Canucks fired Patrik Allvin earlier this month after three-plus seasons. Vancouver finished last in the NHL with a 25-49-8 record and missed the Stanley Cup playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons.
Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal told SportsNet650 said that Gold impressed the team early on throughout the interview process.
"He's a good, young, sharp hockey mind... One agent told me that Gold is a tough negotiator," Dhaliwal said . "He's got an analytics background that teams desire, he's good with the salary cap, he's a lawyer... he has learned from the likes of Cam Neely about being the eye-test guy. Making decisions with what you see. Yes, analytics is a part of it, but what you see, the eye test (matters)."
Gold was also reported to be a finalist to be the next GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs , but they hired John Chayka earlier this month.
