The Boston Bruins won’t be losing one of their staff members to the Toronto Maple Leafs .
John Chayka was named Toronto’s general manager on Sunday after a search that began in March after Brad Treliving was fired.
Bruins assistant general manager Evan Gold was reported to be one of the finalists for the job.
Gold joined the Bruins in 2015 when he was named the director of legal affairs. He’s also the GM of the Providence Bruins in the AHL.
It’s still possible Gold departs the organization this summer. SportsNet Elliotte Friedman reported that the 46-year-old recently interviewed with the Vancouver Canucks for the general manager position.
Fellow Bruins assistant GM Jamie Langenbrunner is also among the candidates to lead the Canucks.
Langenbrunner interviewed for the Canucks’ open general manager position and was said to be “very impressive,” according to Rick Dhaliwal .
It’s unclear when the interview was, or what Vancouver’s timeline is to hire a new GM.
The Canucks fired Patrik Allvin earlier this month after three-plus seasons. Vancouver finished last in the NHL with a 25-49-8 record and missed the Stanley Cup playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons.
The new GM’s first order of business will be to decide whether coach Adam Foote will return next year for a second season after a rough campaign.
