Florida A&M men's basketball continues to build momentum under head coach Charlie Ward after landing the highest-rated recruit in program history.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Jacksonville standout Camden Cooper announced his commitment to the Rattlers on Saturday, choosing Florida A&M over Power Four offers from Florida State and Texas A&M. College basketball insider John Rothstein reported that Cooper is the highest-rated recruit ever to commit to the program. Cooper is rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN and a three-star recruit by Rivals.
"100% committed," Cooper wrote on Instagram. "I'm very grateful to join the FAMULY and to play under Coach Ward, Coach Lazarus, and the rest of the staff. Rattler Nation, let's work."
The 6-foot-7 guard/forward recently completed the 2026 season at Allen D. Nease High School after transferring from St. John's Country Day School. He helped lead Nease to a 20-7 record while averaging 17.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.5 blocks per game during his high school career. Cooper has also reclassified from the Class of 2028 to 2027, allowing him to begin his collegiate career a year earlier.
The commitment marks another milestone for Ward as he enters his second season leading the Rattlers. Florida A&M showed significant progress during Ward's first year, finishing 15-16 overall and 11-7 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play after improving throughout the season.
The Rattlers advanced to the SWAC Tournament, defeating Jackson State 70-60 in their first game before falling to Southern University, 73-70. Now Ward looks to build on the positive momentum of last season by signing Cooper, establishing themselves as true contenders in the SWAC.
