Walker Buehler’s 2025 season was a disappointment.
The veteran pitcher spent 2025 with the Boston Red Sox and went 7-7 record with a 5.40 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 22 starts. He told the LA Times’ Jack Vita he felt elbow pain for all of 2025.
“(It wasn’t until) about early (this) spring,” Buehler said. “Kind of right before I signed (with the Padres), things were kind of trending in a good direction and it feels a lot better than in the past.”
Buehler signed a one-year deal with the Red Sox prior to the 2025 season, months after closing out a 2024 World Series win with the Los Angeles Dodgers .
Once a dominant frontline starter, Buehler struggled to return to form after undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing the entire 2023 season.
During the 2024 postseason, Buehler showed signs of improvement when he threw five shutout innings in Game 3 of the World Series before he got the final three outs to secure the championship victory for LA.
Buehler struggled mightily in Boston and was released by the Red Sox in August.
Now with the Padres , Buehler is looking to get back on track after making the big league team out of spring training.
