All the noise surrounding his trade to the Philadelphia 76ers might not quiet down anytime soon, but Jaylen Brown is ready to tune them out and get back to work.
In a statement on Thursday, he admitted that he was unhappy about leaving the Boston Celtics , especially with how everything unfolded. But he stressed that he is excited for his next chapter with the 76ers.
Brown said he is looking forward to playing in a city known for its toughness.
"I don't want no special treatment, I don't want no hand-outs. I don't want no extra privilege. Not to say y'all gonna give them anyway, but I'm planning to earn the respect one day at a time," said the former Finals MVP on his livestream.
He acknowledged the extra layer of difficulty, given his heated battles with the 76ers in the past . Boston and Philadelphia have a longstanding rivalry that started decades ago.
"The hard part is for the last 10 years, I've been programmed to like hate Philadelphia. From the history of the rivalry to the playoff battles, all of them. 'The Process.' I've been programmed to be like, 'Man, f*** 'The Process,'" added Brown with a chuckle.
"I gotta like reverse engineer. That's the part that's going to take some time."
The 29-year-old wingman is coming off an MVP-type run, wherein he tallied career-highs across the board, led the Celtics to the second seed in the Eastern Conference, and was named to the All-NBA Second Team.
They lost to the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs, blowing a 3-1 lead.
While he is not expected to carry the same load in Philadelphia, with Joel Embiid , Tyrese Maxey , and VJ Edgecombe also in the fold, do not expect Brown to take his foot off the gas.
