Drake Maye showed a lot of growth in Year 2 as he helped lead the Patriots to a 14-3 record and their first playoff appearance since 2021.
But it wasn't his NFL-leading QBR, 4,394 yards or 31 touchdowns that impressed Julian Edelman the most.
"I think it's his attitude. Just talking to people over there, everyone talks about how he's so hungry to be coached, he's so hungry to learn, and it translates into how he looks when he's playing," the former Patriots running back said on "The Herd." "He looks so confident, he makes it look so easy. And I think his relationship with Josh McDaniels has been awesome.
"So I think his attitude is the one thing that stands out," he added . "All these guys can throw the ball, all these guys can run the ball now, especially at that position. It's the guys that are really wanting to dive into the academics of football, learning situations, learning, 'all right, it's third-and-6 in the red area let's not throw an interception, let's take the three points.' And he's shown that he's got that calm, cool, collected attitude, and it's been real fun to watch."
Maye has drawn plenty of national media attention this season. The quarterback now is at the center of the MVP debate that is essentially between him and Los Angeles Rams ' Matthew Stafford .
Even when asked about the award, Maye told FOX Sports' Pam Oliver that it would mean a lot to the team if he won.
"I think it'd mean the world to us," Maye said after New England's Week 18 win over the Miami Dolphins . "It's a team award. I'm just proud of the guys, proud to get a win. It takes everybody and just proud of this team."
While Tom Brady believes the award belongs to Stafford , Maye has received plenty of recognition from the national media that he should be the one to win the annual award.
