- Kim Mulkey says LSU women's basketball defense in Alabama win 'special'
BATON ROUGE — Just one of those days.
And while it was a "special" performance as Kim Mulkey called it for her LSU women's basketball team against Alabama , she hesitated to say outright the 103-63 win over a top-25 opponent on Sunday, Feb. 1, was the most complete game the Tigers have played this season.
Every player for No. 5 LSU (21-2, 7-2 SEC) scored in the contest inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Eight scored at least eight points, and four ended up in double figures, with freshman forward ZaKiyah Johnson recording her first double double since the season opener with 15 points and 10 boards.

"I think defensively, yes," Mulkey said. "I'm just telling you, Alabama's good. Top to bottom, with everybody doing something on the defensive end, probably (LSU's most complete game). It's what it created for us on the offensive end."
Here's what Mulkey said about LSU's blowout win over the Crimson Tide (19-4, 5-4)
"Our defense, today was special. You just wish you could bottle that up and play like that every game. Guys, we just beat a very good basketball team. Do not be misled by that score. Everything that we did defensively affected what we did offensively. They've beaten people we haven't beaten. It was just one of those days where I was kind of worried, 11 a.m. in the morning, freezing cold. As a coach, you go, man I enjoyed that game not because we won but how we did it. It started on the defensive end, and it never stopped."
"She's our glue. She's our coach on the floor. She's got all the tools you need in a point guard. She knows how to win, she comes from a high school winning program. It's all she's ever done in her life. You add the fact that she can score the ball. You can't get off of Jada. Jada will light you up. Jada has proven not only can she'll defend, 'I'll guard anybody and everybody you want me to guard, coach.' She understands angles, she understands foot speed and quickness, who she's guarding. She's been what we've needed to go with Flau'jae (Johnson) and Mikaylah (Williams) and our eight new players. She has stepped up and been big-time."
"We're still in the mix, right? We've got seven games left. Where this thing winds up, think it's fun to be in the mix. We don't have to rely on anybody else winning or losing, go win seven ballgames and you might win your first SEC title. If you don't win seven ballgames, make sure when you walk off that floor that the team that beat you just played great and we did all we could do, coach. It's not going to be easy. I can rattle them off right now, how many of them are going to be tough? All of them."
