The Baltimore Orioles placed relief pitcher Ryan Helsley on the 15-day injured list before Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds , the team announced . Helsley is dealing with right elbow discomfort. The IL move is retroactive to June 30.
In corresponding moves, infielder/outfielder Jeremiah Jackson was recalled from Triple-A, right-handed pitcher Anthony Nunez was recalled from Triple-A and catcher Chadwick Tromp was designated for assignment.
Injuries have been a concern for the Orioles . The two-time All-Star reliever has not had the best season, but he features the ceiling of one of the better closers in the game. So far in 2026, the right-handed hurler has turned in a 4.11 ERA to go along with 21 strikeouts and eight saves.
It remains to be seen how much time he will end up missing with the elbow injury. Updates on Helsley's injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.
With the MLB trade deadline one month away, the Orioles could end up selling given their underperformance . Their injury concerns obviously have not helped matters either. Baltimore is currently just 40-48 and in fourth place in the American League East standings. The ball club trails the Tampa Bay Rays by 13 games for first place in the division.
While the AL Wild Card remains a possibility, selling could help the O's get back on track for next season. They have yet to decide on a trade deadline strategy, though.
For now, the Orioles are focused on their upcoming game against the Reds on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST in Cincinnati.
