The Denver Broncos will be missing a tight end for the rest of organized team activities ( OTAs ) and a mandatory minicamp later this month.
Caleb Lohner , who was praised by coach Sean Payton as a standout performer earlier this spring, recently underwent a " routine " lower-body clean-up procedure, according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis. That will sideline Lohner for the rest of the spring, but he is expected to be ready for training camp, which usually begins in late July.
Lohner is a former basketball player who spent last season on the practice squad after being picked by Denver in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft out of Utah. Payton said the tight end looks "entirely different" this offseason compared to when he arrived last year.
"[O]ne year into the program, and how he's moving, what he's doing, everything looks entirely different," Payton said . "That learning curve and growth curve was greater for someone who had far less experience, maybe, than others, if that makes sense. It's entirely noticeable, and he's in great shape. You see his athleticism."
Lohner will now rehab with the goal of returning in time for training camp. The team's other tight ends on the roster going into the summer are Evan Engram , Adam Trautman , Justin Joly, Nate Adkins , Dallen Bentley and Lucas Krull .
