The news of Bill Belichick not getting elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility drew the ire of several of his former Patriots players.
Belichick helped lead New England to six Super Bowl titles over the course of two separate dynasties. He has eight in total. The 302 wins is the second-most in the NFL.

Regardless of his résumé, it still wasn’t enough to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
After the news broke Tuesday, Devin McCourty , David Andrews , Brian Hoyer , Kendrick Bourne and several other players who had Belichick as a coach spoke out on social media.
Here’s what they had to say:
“Personal vendettas shouldn’t stand in the way of the greatest coach of all time being a first ballot Hall of Famer. Shame on the people who didn’t vote for him for not taking the emotion out of it. One of the coolest moments of my career was visiting the HOF as a team in 2019 training camp and seeing how much respect Bill had for that place and the history of our sport.”

“I mean this is crazy. What are we even voting on?”
“Clearly, I think the system is flawed. And this is a major example and a stain that needs to be adjusted in our voting system, because honestly I think the NFL lost a lot of respect today.”
“Bill Belichick not being a first-ballot Hall of Famer is the most outrageous robbery in NFL history!!!”
“you know how big of a hater u gotta be to see somebody with 8 rings & be like…nah."
“Yea they trippin.”
“If there is a Hall of Fame, if there is a way for coaches to get in it — there’s no way, there’s no world where Bill Belichick is not a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer. ... He is hands-down the best orchestrator of an organization, of a team."

“That’s insane and absolutely ridiculous. He is the greatest to ever do it! First Ballot is for the best in our game, both players and coaches. Bill clearly is deserving of that honor.”
