Payton Tolle was strong again on the mound for the Worcester Red Sox on Sunday.
The top Red Sox pitching prospect pitched five scoreless innings, gave up three hits, one walk and struck out six in Worcester's 8-2 win over the Columbus Clippers at Polar Park.
It's the second straight strong start for Tolle. The lefty allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and struck out seven batters in six innings during his last outing .
Tolle came into spring training hoping for a spot on Boston 's roster. With the additions of Ranger Suárez , Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo , Tolle was among the final cuts.
"It does sting, because you want to play at the highest level all the time," Tolle said last month at Polar Park . "But at the same time, it's what's going to be beneficial for me. I'm just excited to get going on the year and start pitching against other hitters in games that actually mean things again."
The 23-year-old appeared in seven games for Boston last season after beginning 2025 in High-A Greenville. Tolle also made one postseason appearance.
After Sunday's start, Tolle is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA and 19 strikeouts across 15 innings.
