Here are some notes, quotes, trends, and other odds & ends I emptied out of the old notebook after Monday's 100-60 UNM Lobos win over Utah Tech in the Pit: Tunde's big second half Monday night might have been the Jake Hall show for Lobos basketball, but while the primary plan is (and will remain) to maximize Hall’s scoring, Monday's 100-60 Lobos win over Utah Tech also showed the importance of ...

Eric Olen let out a chuckle. Look, the reporter did preface the question with a “I hesitate to ask” because everyone pretty much knew the answer. Nevertheless, after last weekend’s UNM Lobo exhibition game 91-86 loss to the Big 12’s Arizona State Sun Devils in the Pit, it was hard not to look at the start to the game of Preseason Mountain West Player of the Year Jake Hall, the second-year star ...

Here is our MW men’s basketball player rankings entering 2026-27!

The first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of Sunday’s exhibition game for the UNM Lobos looked fairly good for the home team. The middle 20 minutes looked pretty worrisome. In the end, Arizona State hit 16 of 41 3-pointers and UNM’s second-year scoring sensation Jake Hall went just 3-for-13 from beyond the arc in a 91-86 Lobos loss in front of an announced crowd of 7,447 in the Pit. And ...

Oct. 18—Mountain West Freshman of the Year and sophomore guard Jake Hall scored 22 points on 8 of 10 shooting and the University of New Mexico Lobos Men's basketball team beat the Washington State Cougars 92-64 in an exhibition game at The Pit in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Sunday. The Cougars never really stood a chance after the Lobos went on an 8-2 run to start the game, and pulled away with ...

ALBUQUERQUE — As practice games go, kinda boring — but also impressive. The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team showed flashes of brilliance and plenty of promise in a Sunday exhibition matinee against Washington State, rolling to a lopsided 92-64 win in The Pit. It was the second of the Lobos’ three exhibitions in this month’s Power Ford Tip-Off Series. It wraps up this weekend ...

The offseason focus in both recruiting and practice for Oklahoma State coach Steve Lutz was on the defensive end, where the Cowboys struggled a season ago and needed a turnaround. That didn’t happen in the opening exhibition Sunday against New Mexico at Gallagher-Iba Arena, as the OSU defense was torched in a 99-89 loss against the Lobos. Leaving that loss and heading into the rest of the ...

STILLWATER, Okla. — Since November 1988, only two teams have beaten Oklahoma State in a preseason basketball game inside historic Gallagher-Iba Arena. There was the Soviet Union national team on Nov. 22, 1988 — back when college teams still regularly played international teams in the preseason. And there there was Sunday, when Jake Hall and New Mexico snapped the Cowboys’ 57-game preseason win ...
