Giants' physical camp means New York won't 'put up a stinker' in Week 1
Carl Banks explains why the Giants' demanding training camp, including Brian Burns' comments about the Miami heat, has the team prepared for the regular season opener, and why he doesn't anticipate blown assignments or missed tackles early on.

Let's see.
I got, I wanna get to this one.
@AEFish, "How many weeks is it gonna take for this team to click realistically?"
Yeah, I mean, it's a Belichick thing.
He'd pick his team during camp, and then his team would gel, and he said the first few weeks it would take us to really find our identity.
But the wink-wink of all that is he had Tom Brady, so they were winning games before they found their identity.
The Giants do not have that luxury.
Yeah.
Right.
I think all the hard practice, all the physical practices, Carl, will this team get better and improve over the year?
Sure.
But I think all- Yeah signs are pointed for two weeks from tonight.
Yeah, I mean, look, they are, they are putting in the work.
There's not gonna be a huge expectation of hiccups.
You know, they had uncharacteristically, was it the Jet game they had a ton of penalties?
But they have been pretty clean penalty-wise.
Their players', offensive line didn't have a lot of procedural calls, so there are some things that they work on, and they've been working on those things from, OTAs.
And so they've been ingrained.
So there's going to be a difference in when the team hits its stride.
And they're gonna look a lot better in these early games.
It's not gonna be I don't Well, let me just say this.
I don't anticipate a ton of missed tackles, a ton of blown assignments.
They're going to be that team where everybody say, "Ah, well, you know, the first couple weeks, these teams, they're, you know, 'cause they don't hit in camp and these things."
The Giants have been a physical They ran a very physical camp.
They've been a very demanding camp.
They're gonna go into a game knowing what to expect, and that's, you know, something that Brian Burns alluded to.
He said that if, if it wasn't for the type of practices they'd had, the heat would've ate 'em up in, in Miami.
And he just said that they were just, you know, ready to go.
So I, I, you know, hitting your stride when you're in this system where the expectation is higher, it's not the attaboys, we'll get 'em next time.
It's next time, it's the next play.
It's not the next week.
That's how they do it.
So if you blow an assignment, or you weren't ready to play on one play, then the next play is all that matters to them.
And so they don't, they don't chalk it up and say, "We'll get 'em next week."
They wanna get 'em the next rep. And that, I think that's kind of the difference in, in, the approach here.
You know, Hardball's not the, "You better do this," but he's, "Hey, this is what our expectations are.
You didn't get it that time, I need you to get it the next time.
That's where our expectation is now.
This is where you start."
so they're not gonna, I, I don't think they're gonna put up a stinker
