Risk/Reward of Falcons Playing Michael Penix Jr. in Preseason vs. Dolphins

The Falcons aren't playing Michael Penix Jr. against the Miami Dolphins, and it was the only logical choice.

Video Transcript

Are we expecting to get Pennox out there?

What do you, who do you expect him to get out there versus Miami?

I don't really know what to expect.

I mean, I, and, and I think just starting off at the top, I think it may have been Austin says, I'm leaning towards playing him, you know, one or two series this week against Miami.

And again, my question is why?

You know what If, if you want Michael Pennox to be the starter.

Is one or two series gonna be the difference between you against Miami on Friday gonna be the difference between you making the playoffs or not?

No, it's, it's , it's not, it's not gonna make a difference.

17 game season, they could flush the Steelers game down the toilet and still make the playoffs, and that's in another 2 weeks.

This gives them another 2 weeks to get fully ready, full, you know, another full 2 weeks of preparation with 11 on 11s, etc.

etc.

But, if I want Michael Pennox to be the starter, oh, it could all go down the drain with one guy falling into his knee on, on Friday afternoon, you know, down in Miami.

So, that's the risk versus the reward.

What's the reward?

And if I need to see him against Miami, 2 series against Miami to decide who I'm gonna start, then I haven't been doing my job.

You know, they, they pretty much got an idea of who they wanna have start.

If everybody's available, and I just don't think one or two series against the Miami Dolphins is gonna be the deciding factor for who plays in the next, in the next game, in the season opener.

I think health might have the, the biggest, uh, you know, readiness there.

Well, how do you know if he's ready if you don't play him?

You haven't played the last 3 years in the in the previous, you didn't play the previous 2 preseasons either, you know, it's like game one is almost like a let's find out kind of thing.

So from a risk reward factor, I just don't see the reward of playing him out there, and the risk is.

Huge.

There's a huge risk in putting him out there for a meaningless game.
