Best alarm clock
Still sleeping with your phone under your pillow? Experts recommend using an alarm clock instead.

Let's be real — most of us scroll ourselves to sleep, then crash with our phones tucked under our pillows, counting on their blaring alarms to jolt us awake. It's become such a habit that we barely question it, even though that late-night scrolling often stretches longer than we intended. Between endless notifications, group chats and one more episode or video, our brains rarely get the wind-down time they need. But a 2022 study found that bedtime screen time messes with your sleep, disrupting your natural rhythms and making mornings feel even harder. The fix? A good alarm clock that isn't your phone.

The best alarm clock can be a simple digital model with easy-to-use settings — and an accessible snooze button — or a tech-savvy option with soothing white noise and sunrise features.

Whether you want something basic, stylish or packed with bells and whistles, there's an option here for you. We've rounded up the best picks — from sleek, minimalist designs to tech-savvy powerhouses built for even the heaviest sleepers. These are the best alarm clocks of 2026, evaluated based on usability, price, features and overall wake-up vibe.

Best overall alarm clock for 2026

Power:Corded | Dimmable:Yes | Features:Three alarms, humidity and temperature sensor, weekday mode | Alarm style:Sound

The Jall Wooden Alarm Clock is a stylish alarm clock that looks much more expensive than it is. A digital display is overlaid on a minimalist wooden face, and you can adjust the brightness levels as needed. You can also enable power-saving mode so that the display will only appear when it registers sounds or when you touch it. Set up to three alarms, and program a weekday mode so that the alarm only comes on Monday to Friday.

One satisfied Amazon reviewer calls it "a versatile digital clock with a premium feel," adding, "This device is a great all-in-one product. The alarm can be set separately for weekdays and weekends, and the brightness is adjustable. Both temperature and humidity readings are quite accurate. I love that it's plug-in so I don't have to deal with batteries. It has a high-quality look and feel—definitely a fantastic buy for this price!"

Pros
  • Attractive and stylish
  • Humidity and temperature sensor
  • Weekday mode
Cons
  • No giant snooze button
  • Volume is not adjustable

More alarm clocks we like for 2026

Power:Battery | Dimmable:Yes | Features:Night light, three dimmer settings, gradually faster beep noise, top snooze button, indoor temperature monitor | Alarm style:Sound

Sure, there are plenty of high-tech alarm clocks out there — including a few that made our list. But if you're looking for a no-frills option that doesn't even require a wall outlet, look no further than the Peakeep Smart Night Light clock . It features large, easy-to-read digits and a built-in ambient light sensor that automatically turns on a nightlight in low-light conditions. You can adjust the brightness from low to high or turn it off entirely. Plus, the clock displays the room temperature, so you always know how warm or cool your space is.

One five-star reviewer calls this alarm clock "perfect," praising its "good size" and "perfect backlighting," and noting that the numbers are "very readable" and "visible from any angle." They add that the "alarm is very good."

Pros
  • Battery-operated
  • Loud alarm
  • Affordable
Cons
  • Basic design

Power:Corded | Dimmable:Yes | Features:Simulated sunrise and sunset, 20 brightness settings, five natural wake-up sounds, FM radio, automatic dimmable display | Alarm style:Sound and light

The Philips SmartSleep Wake-Up Light helps you wake more naturally by simulating a sunrise, along with five nature-inspired wake-up sounds. Unlike traditional alarm clocks that can be, well, alarming, this sunrise clock begins with a gentle glow 30 minutes before your set time and gradually increases in brightness. In addition to offering a more pleasant way to start your day, it doubles as a bedside reading lamp, with 20 brightness settings.

It's also John La Puma , MD's top alarm clock pick. "It mimics a real sunrise, shifting from soft red-orange to bright white over 20 to 30 minutes. That timing supports the body's natural wake cycle, allowing melatonin levels to taper and the cortisol awakening response to rise before you're fully awake. And at dusk, you can use the sunset mode, which dims gradually to help avoid suppressing melatonin release later that night."

Pros
  • Sunrise and sunset settings
  • Gentle nature-based sounds
  • Doubles as bedside reading lamp
Cons
  • Bulky

Power:Corded | Dimmable:Yes Features:Amazon Alexa integration, weather display, nightlight, voice calling | Alarm style:Sound

Amazon's Echo Spot is a good choice for those who want an alarm clock with a smart assistant. Alexa integration means you can use it to get the weather forecast, listen to last night's sports scores and your favorite tunes and even control your smart home. It has a big and bold LED display and comes in a few colors, including black, white and blue.

"Bought this for my 91-year-old father-in-law, who is almost completely deaf without his hearing aids. He has not been able to find an alarm clock loud enough," wrote one dutiful shopper . "This works perfectly. He also struggled with setting the alarm times on his old clock. He loves that he can just tell Alexa to wake him up at a certain time, and the alarm sets itself. I set some routines for him through the app, but he has loved not depending on me to set his routine alarms. This device works great for the elderly! I definitely recommend it."

Pros
  • Alexa integration
  • Bright LED
  • Voice calling
  • Can create personalized routines
Cons
  • Some shoppers report the display occasionally glitches

Power:Corded | Dimmable:Yes | Features:All-in-one sleep-wake machine, has a sunrise alarm that mimics the arrival of daylight | Alarm style:Light and sound

The Hatch Restore will help you doze off to sleep and uses a gentle wake-up method in the morning with the help of soothing sounds and lights. It's an all-in-one sleep-wake machine and our best sunrise alarm clock that works even for deep sleepers.

It offers soothing sounds and calming lights to help you drift off to sleep, plus a light sunrise simulator alarm clock that will gently wake you with a gradually brightening glow. On top of that, it has a soft-glow reading light to help you doze off. It also comes with a free trial for the Hatch+, an optional in-app subscription that gives you unlimited access to meditations, sleep stories, soundscapes and more.

In fact, the Hatch is the favorite alarm clock of Erin Clifford , a national board-certified health and wellness coach and licensed professional counselor. She says it "combines the best new tech with the old-school alarm clock vibe to improve not only your sleep but the way you start your day." She also likes that you can set different alarms and routines for weekdays and weekends, offering greater flexibility.

Yahoo writer and certified sleep science coach Sharon Brandwein recently tested the Hatch Restore 3, describing it as a thoughtfully designed, all-in-one sleep companion that stands out for its customizable sunrise alarm, robust sound library and intuitive app. "It's not inexpensive, but the thoughtful design makes it feel less like a standard alarm clock purchase," she noted, adding that the reengineered audio sounded noticeably clearer (compared to the Restore 2) during testing.

Pros
  • Helps you doze off to sleep
  • Gentle wake-up method with a sunrise alarm
  • Soft-glow reading light for night time
Cons
  • A little pricey
  • Needs membership to get unlimited access to meditations and soundscapes
  • Takes up space

Power:Battery | Dimmable:N/A, not lighted, there's a small light you can turn on at night | Features:No-frills, 1 AA battery operated, classic beep alarms, ascending volume, alarm lasts for nearly an hour, non-ticking clock | Alarm style:Sound

For those who appreciate a classic, this small, square clock is a winner that will fit tiny nightstands and is ideal for travel. The Peakeep Small Travel Alarm Clock has the basic beeping alarm sounds, which can last for almost an hour before the alarm or snooze button is pressed. And it doesn't have that annoying ticking sound that most analog clocks have either, so you can rest easier through the night and have a better wake-up experience.

"This is a winner," said one review . "Easy to see in the dark with the dim light, just enough light to pick it up and look at it. It has a simple 2-button operation: set the alarm, and then it gives you a gentle beeping tone that gets louder over about 1 minute. If you let it reach full volume, you will not sleep through it. Hit the top button, and you are in for a brief 5-minute snooze for the next alarm. The same top button activates the light when the alarm is not active. Easy to read without my glasses on."

Pros
  • Affordable
  • Easy to use
  • Long-lasting alarm
Cons
  • Not lighted

Factors to consider when choosing an alarm clock

  • Power:Consider whether you want a clock that's battery-powered or corded. A corded clock means never having to worry about batteries, but it's also less portable.

  • Dimmability:Many people prefer a clock with a dimmable display so they can drift off to sleep more easily.

  • Features:The number of extra alarm clock features can vary widely. You might want one with a smart assistant or sunrise features, while others prefer a no-frills clock.

  • Alarm style:Not all alarms are the same. If you prefer a gentler way to wake up, opt for one with soft sound options or a sunrise alarm, which uses light to wake you up instead of sound. Of course, there are also clocks with the traditional beeping alarm if you're the sort that needs that extra jolt to wake you from your slumber.

How we chose these alarm clocks

We selected these alarm clocks based on a combination of expert reviews, user ratings, price, feature sets and bestseller rankings across major retailers like Amazon and Walmart. When possible, we incorporated hands-on testing and personal experience from our team to evaluate ease of use, sound quality, display brightness and overall functionality. We also considered factors like design, durability and overall value.

FAQs

Why not just use your phone as an alarm clock?

You could use your phone as an alarm clock, but if you want deeper, more restorative sleep, it's best to keep your phone out of the bedroom — or at least place it screen-side down on your nightstand with notifications turned off.

La Puma explains: "If your phone doubles as your alarm clock, it's probably on your nightstand and the last thing you look at before falling asleep. The blue light you see tells your brain it's still daytime.

"Using a real alarm clock moves the phone out of the bedroom, and that can help you fall asleep faster, get more deep sleep and wake up without stress from overnight notifications. Night Shift on your phone lessens blue light, but even a warm-tinted doomscroll keeps your circadian rhythm guessing and your brain stimulated," he adds.

Is the snooze button bad for your sleep?

It depends on the person. A 2023 study found that hitting the snooze button may not affect overall sleep quality and could even help reduce morning drowsiness. However, snoozing affects people differently, and both La Puma and Clifford say that regularly pressing snooze can leave some people feeling groggy.

"When you hit snooze, you may drift back to sleep after waking, but you're not getting good-quality sleep. It can disrupt your body's internal clock, leaving you feeling groggy and exhausted for hours," Clifford says.

La Puma agrees. "Generally, if you need to hit snooze, your wake time is wrong. Tomorrow, set the alarm for when you actually need to get up. Try a sunrise light to gradually awaken in a less jarring way, so you can feel alert when you get up."

Who do I keep sleeping through my alarms?

According to La Puma, the main reason people sleep through their alarm is sleep debt. He says common causes include screen use within 60 minutes of bed, alcohol within three hours of bedtime, a bedroom that's too warm or noisy, a disruptive bed partner or pet and simply not spending enough time in bed.

If none of those apply, La Puma recommends asking your doctor about sleep apnea , which is common and diagnosed with a sleep test. In the meantime, he suggests moving your phone out of the bedroom and getting outside within 60 minutes of waking for 10 to 15 minutes of morning light to help reset your circadian rhythm.
