Scarlett Hepworth teaches adults and young people 13 and over to sing with confidence, skill, and authenticity. A well-known San Francisco area actress, Scarlett brings to her studio a knowledge of performer's "tricks of the trade," as well as years of experience as a music director, accompanist, composer, and musical theater performing artist. One-hour lessons are fun, informative, and non-threatening. Many students have gone on to careers in the theater; but Scarlett also caters to people returning to singing after many years, who just want to croon a tune at the piano bar, sing at a wedding, or learn those opera arias they've always loved. Though Scarlett is anchored in musical theater, she is familiar with many genres: classical, jazz and pop standards, gospel, folk, British music hall, and sacred song. She owns thousands of pieces of sheet music and is an expert piano accompanist. Let Scarlett help you safely develop a sound singing technique and a fabulous repertoire.
-- I believe in tailoring Cello lessons to each student's individual musical interests. While classical music is my main focus, there are many kinds of music that I enjoy and work with students to develop - including Jazz, Rock, World music and Improvisation. Matching repertoire to a student's interest and playing ability is key to developing motivation for my students. -- A solid base of technique is essential. With this in mind, a steady regimen of scales and etudes (studies designed to perfect specific technique building skills) are a part of my students' private practice and cello lessons. An understanding of Classical Music's history, a foundation of theory, ear training, and rhythm are all important aspects of my cello student's education as well. -- Cello lessons must be fun and rewarding in order for the student to generate the focus, passion and commitment to persist and thrive. Music making should be a pleasure, a source of inspiration, and means of expression.
