Prospect Park Carousel is located in the "children's corner" of the Prospect Park. The carousel features 53 animals which are intricately carved and painted. It was created in 1912 and later restored by the Prospect Park Alliance in 1990. The carousel offers rides for adults as well as children and is one of the few carousels which are accessible by wheelchair. The carousel is also rented for parties and special occasions. Located on the second floor, in a small room of the American Geographical Society building is a prized globe. This is no ordinary globe and has been signed by a number of famous aviators and explorers of modern history. Right from Sir Edmund Hillary to Amelia Earhart to Charles Lindbergh the heroes not only signed their names but also drew their routes they have traveled upon. This tradition of signing the globe started in 1929 when the returning adventurers would be personally approached and their signatures and routes traveled by them across the Earth would be sought. In present times there are 82 signers on the prized globe and counting. The tradition is still be carried on with new explorer being added by the society every year.
