The Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve is an immaculate estuary that also doubles up as one of the best bird-watching spots in North America. Home to more than 30,000 migratory birds during the winter, these coastal wetlands are also inhabited by some sensitive species such as the California Gnatcatcher and the Burrowing Owl. The preserve is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, and you can enjoy activities like hiking, biking, horseback riding, or bird watching. Within its premises, the nature preserve houses the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center where you can gain some more information about the estuary through interesting exhibits and displays.
The prime location, excellent amenities, and the diverse activities offered here, makes the Peninsula Park of Balboa Island an excellent spot for a fun day out. Located conveniently close to the beach, the pier, and a number of eateries, enjoy a family picnic on a pleasant day here. The park offers spectacular views, a playground for children, BBQ grills, a gazebo, and large green fields among other facilities.
For those who can make only one stop in Corona del Mar, make it the Corona del Mar State Beach. This area alone can make everyone fall in love with CdM, a laid-back multi-million-dollar neighborhood accented by the Pacific, with streets lined by palm trees and flower beds. On the bluff, three signs mark beach access: Lookout Point, Main Beach, and Inspiration Point. Each point has a different view, but all share Catalina Island in the background, with Newport Bay and Balboa Island in the foreground. A few steps towards the south end of Ocean Boulevard is a secluded cove near the Robert E. Badham Marine Life Refuge, and some of the most extravagant mansions follow.
Marina Park is a recreational space with fun activities in water as well as in the park. The park offers indoor as well as outdoor party space, games for kids and also has kayaking facilities. Open since 2015, the park provisions for Nautical themed play ground, outdoor cafe, water activities, fitness center and also has catering services for any party or event.
