Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960, the Charleston Historic District reflects the aura that was present during the time of the Civil War. Also known as the Charleston Old & Historic District, the buildings in this neighborhood are reminiscent of 18th and 19th century architecture, displaying architectural treasures of Georgian, Regency, Federal, Classic Revival and Italianate styles, among others. A few of the period structures you will find lining the streets in the district are St John's Lutheran Church on Archdale Street, the Confederate Home on Broad Street and the William Thompson Tenement on Anson Street.
