Spindletop

Nestled in the southern recesses of Beaumont, Spindletop is a salt dome which has existed ever since the Jurassic times. The top was formed from a water-soluble mineral element called Louann salt. Millions of years later, the dome now produces 100,000 barrels of oil everyday. A life-changing repercussion was left in the wake of a massive oil blowout at the site. This was followed by an oil exploration which eventually paved the way for the Texas oil boom. The Spindletop-Gladys City Museum is an ode to this very iconic event, and also harbors the Lucas Gusher Monument. Dating back to the age of the dinosaurs, Spindletop revolutionized the course of the country forever, putting it on the international radar in the realm of oil producing.

McFaddin-Ward House

This beautiful colonial mansion was built in the early 20th century by Texas oil and cattle pioneers, Perry and Ida McFaddin. Designed by one of Beaumont's first educated architects, it includes 12,500 square feet of space with sweeping porches, large white columns, fine furnishings and valuable antiques. The Colonial Revival style was equipped with many modern comforts for this early period of the century. Daughter Mamie set up a museum foundation to preserve the family's history and heirlooms for future generations to enjoy. Call for information about special events and group rates. Guided tours are offered throughout the day.
