Accessible via South Midland Drive, the I-20 Wildlife Preserve was established in January of 2013. Located just off the I-20 (thus the name), the preserve incorporates of more than 30 acres (12.14 hectares) of Texan playa. Just about 7 miles (11.26 kilometers) from Midland International Airport, I-20 Wildlife Preserve boasts of a rich biodiversity native to Texan wetland, that includes several birds, butterflies, badgers, bobcats, foxes, and rabbits, to name a few. About 20,000 square feet (1858.06 square meters) of the preserve is dedicated to Jenna Welch Nature Study Center. Open all year, I-20 Wildlife Preserve offers a range of educational programs, UG research programs and activities such as hiking, bird-watching and such.
