The Fort Concho National Historic Landmark is located on the banks of the North Concho River. This historic place was built in the 19th Century to protect the city from hostile threats. The fort covered nearly 1600 acres of land which consisted of 40 buildings, each serving a specific purpose. The Fort Concho National Historic Landmark now stands strong with only a few buildings existing such as the barracks, the schoolhouse, the officers row, the headquarters and more. The Fort Concho National Historic Landmark now mainly serves as a reminder of the city's bravery and military accomplishments.
