There are few thing in this world that are as comforting as a hearty home-cooked meal. Since its establishment in the 1950s, Mena's Palace Restaurant has been serving diners a selection of soul-satisfying local delicacies that are prepared fresh, home-style. Apart from breakfast dishes and lunch specials, the restaurant also offers a selection of po-boys, salads, pastas, and seafood dishes. A simple and friendly place to go to for a taste of Cajun and Creole cuisine the way the locals enjoy it, Mena's Palace is slowly beginning to garner attention from tourists and visitors as well. You may even purchase their homemade seasonings, salads and Italian dressing. The restaurant opens its doors daily at 7a, however closing hours vary so be sure to call ahead if you plan to visit for an evening meal.
At Baru Bistro and Tapas, diners can expect authentic Latin-Caribbean flavors to fill their plates. The majority of the menu consists of small plates full of flavor. Shrimp Sautéed with Chorizo and Bell Peppers; Grilled Corn with Salao Cheese, Pink Sauce and Crunchy Potato Sticks; and Tilapia Ceviche with Avacado are among the favorites of the clientèle that line up at the Magazine Street location to try the tasty tapas. Diners can also choose from several full-portion entrées similar in style to the small plate offerings. Baru Bistro and Tapas encourages patrons to bring their own beverages; they do charge a nominal corking fee, however.
The Bower
The Bower is a full service restaurant and bar proudly highlighting locally-sourced American cuisine. Louisiana Farmers and farmers markets are our jam and inspiration. Our menus are ingredient driven determined by seasons, product availability and the additional health benefits they provide.
All of the fixtures from the old days of Gautreau's fill the rooms (even the tin ceiling) here, including old New Orleans photographs and the famous apothecary cabinet from the original drug store. Since the menus change seasonally, try the Marinated Shrimp and Dungeness Crab when you spot them on the menu. Recent favorite entrees include Sautéed Tilapia and Shrimp or the Roasted Chicken with Wild Mushrooms. The pastry chef has mastered a fine Honey Orange Creme Brulee and delightful Triple Layer Cheesecake with chocolate, maple pecans and almonds.
Our business specializes in a variety of Stuph’D beignets and burgers. Stuph’D’s bestseller is the Creole Queen Beignets which consists of our special crawfish sauce, lump crab, and shrimp. We make sure that all of our customers are STUPH’D before they leave.
