This is traditional Mexican food at its finest, prepared in a restaurant that definitely knows its chilies and sauces. Whether you order simple carnitas or tamales, you'll know you've found the type of Mexican food that originated in Mexico and not the States. The menu at Mijares Mexican Restaurant includes fajitas de camarones, taquitos con guacamole and roland's taco salad served with plenty of taco meat. The place features simple furnishings indoors as well as a beautiful patio area. Handsome Spanish art work hangs on the walls for all to admire. This former tamal and tortilla factory has become a highly popular restaurant run by the same family for many decades.
Since 1958, this mom-and-pop shop has been slinging burgers, sandwiches and shakes to the people of Pasadena. The decor inside is reminiscent of the era, with checkerboard tiled walls, replica vintage Route 66 placards and red vinyl seats, all you need is Chubby Checker on the jukebox and you'll be transported in time. The menu has daily specials which include your choice of sandwich, side and a drink. Located on Washington Boulevard in North Pasadena, it's a nice spot to visit in lieu of the usual fast-food spots.
