An elegant, century-old Victorian home, the Raintree is a five-time recipient of Florida Trend magazine's 10-best award and a 12-time winner of its coveted Golden Spoon Award. The menu features Crispy Coconut Shrimp Sticks with a sweet and spicy Thai Chili dipping sauce, Cashew Crusted Pork Tenderloin Mignonettes with Champagne and Raspberry Sauce, and Mahi Mahi and Blue Crab baked in Puff Pastry topped with a champagne-honey-saffron glaze. There are also classic favorites including Beef Wellington, rack of lamb and a wide variety of seafood, chicken, steak, lamb and pasta for those looking for a familiar taste.
This local favorite, gorgeously situated on the historic oceanfront promenade of Avenida Menendez, is a strong contrast to most of its neighbors. While certainly possessed of an ageless grace, it's clearly from a bygone era when rents were lower and businesses of non-elite tastes and targets could afford to inhabit the premises. Indeed, the decor and architecture is markedly dated, but the staff is courteous and welcoming, and the food has kept St Augustine residents coming back fopr decades. The eponymous harbor view is likewise an attraction, and daily specials often provide a sumptuous repast at a steal of a price.
Carmelo's
Carmelo's Pizzeria may be mainstay for Flagler College students, but this establishment has been here in St. Augustine for more than a century. Most of the menu focuses on the pizzas, yet the kitchen still provides sandwiches, calzones, panini, wings, salads, subs and wraps. After dinner, check out the San Sebastian Winery across the street for a tasting or head to Whetstone Chocolate Factory to satisfy the sweet tooth.
