Kansai
Kansai is located in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood, very close to the Macarthur BART station. This popular restaurant offers an extensive Japanese and sushi menu, and has Happy Hour specials on sushi rolls. Another popular aspect of Kansai is that it's open past midnight, which is always a nice find. The service is attentive, but if you need something, all tables feature little buttons that can summon your server for you.
Our Sushi will make you want to come back again and again! We use the freshest fish and ingredients and we're famous for our Lion King Roll! We offer a ton of different rolls, sushi and sashimi.

Go to the 'Something Unique' section of the menu, and you can take your pick of several different sea creatures that are kept alive until the last possible instant for ultimate freshness. Try the live scallop, a dish that is not only fresh as can be but is also served two different ways: nigiri-style drizzled in ponzu sauce and tempura battered with onions. Chef Jackson Yu ensures that the other dishes are also as fresh as they can be by having fresh fish brought in daily to avoid freezing. As a one-man operation, dining requires a reservation, and takeout orders must be called in ahead of time. If the door is closed or locked upon arrival for your reservation or pickup, knock or ring the door bell, and you’ll be welcomed in.
