Monte Alban Restaurant

This family-run cafe serves up excellent fare from the Oaxaca region of Mexico. Although the decor is sparse, attention is lavished on the menu. Notice the five different kinds of mole sauce, ranging in spiciness, color and taste. Try the overstuffed enchiladas, the green chili peppers stuffed with chicken, raisins and groundnuts or the fried plantains for dessert. Everything is authentic and wonderful.

Tacos Delta

Located in the hip area known as Sunset Junction in Silverlake, Tacos Delta is a small, nondescript stand hidden away among the trendy eateries and shops. Some say these are the best street tacos in East Hollywood, and some would even say the best in L.A. Come and see for yourself how their asada (beef), carnitas (pork) and pollo (chicken) tacos taste in order to determine the winner. In addition to tacos, the stand also has other Mexican favorites like the superb Chilaquiles (fried tortilla strips in red sauce) and different Enchiladas.

Cena Vegan

Our story is simple. We wanted plant-based meats with authentic, delicious flavors. Nothing was good enough to satisfy us, so we got busy and created it.

La Serenata Cantina

Surprisingly, it's not easy to find gourmet Mexican in the City of Angels. Here's one place, however, that serves up high-quality food with an accent on fruits of the sea. The crowds flock to this Westside branch of the East L.A. original (La Serenata de Garibaldi) for the shrimp quesadillas, fish enchiladas and a seviche that's delicious. The owners take reservations,  but the place is usually full if you go there on impulse, so be prepared to wait. It's worth it, even the salsas are out of this world.
